Banksy

Growing up I always thought that street graffiti was bad and ruined the city. I never really thought of it at art work or people expressing themselves, I just thought it was completely vandalism. I very rarely ever notice art work, and it was never really an interest to me. After watching this video, I do have more respect for the artists. It is their way of expressing themselves to the public with a picture. Many people that see it think it is harmful to the city but believe it or not I feel that a lot of people can relate to some of these pictures and their meanings. People perceive it negatively (as I did) but I feel that these artists are just trying to be herd. I thought this documentary was enjoyable to watch and made me understand more as to why street art is important!

Advertising Debate

On the debate we had in class last Wednesday on whether advertising should be controlled or regulated, or no, I was on that advertising should be controlled or regulated. The other opinion made some very good points, but I feel like they were more focused on how we are going to regulate it and what we would do. The debate was asking more if we think regulation should exist. Ms. Hasson said that if we think any part any little part of advertising should be regulated then you should be on the ads should be controlled side. This is why I think that most of the class should be on this side because if you think that there shouldn't be condom ads and viagra ads on networks for children that is somewhat regulation. I do believe the different points that the other side brought up, but the children is most of the reason as to why I am advertising should be regulated side.

Advertising

In class on Monday we talked a lot about advertising and its affects on society. Anywhere you go or anything you watch, you are most of the time faced with a "perfect women" that is trying to sell a product or clothing etc. Whether it's a shampoo advertisement or car ad, all these labels that you look at are exploiting the perfect image. All these beautiful people on the labels, give people hope and let them think that it is possible for them to look like this. I personally think that it has a major affect in todays world. So many women are so insecure with themselves because they are always constantly trying to change into something of what they think is better. Women are always constantly comparing themselves to what they see in an ad or commercial and always looking down on themselves. I believe this affects self-esteem and confidence within yourself which affects who you are. Destructive and negative feelings can lead to more serious issues such as an eating disorder or depression. When you look at the big picture it all is just doesn't make any sense that people are developing health issues just because they simply don't think they are good enough compared to something that does not exist. More women need to realize that these people are not real and have more pride in themselves. The age of girls that are being influenced by this each year are younger and younger!
